DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton dial on conversion of Agassiz mvt to center seconds system in imitation of the Borresen-DeLong type, 16S, GF OF case, SW-LS, Hamilton WED styled after others by O'Hara (this one not signed) with sunken center for seconds, Hamilton feet removed and new feet added, lever escapement, 16J, fausses-côtes and microwave pattern NI damascene, s#100738. This watch looks to have been created by a watchmaker that used the dial from a Hamilton with Borresen-Delong center seconds conversion and that modified this Swiss movement to a similar center seconds arrangement with seconds hand riding beneath the minute and hour hands.
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, excellent mvt condition overall; conversion effort somewhat crude; dial chipped and cracked at 7 to 8, hls and edge fleck at 1 to 2; hands mint; case shows little wear, some MFS, no dents or dings, complete detail; bow tight, crown shows very light wear; good glass crystal.

Bliss Jewelry Co served as railroad watch inspectors for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railway as well as several other railway lines.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, ticking with good motion in some positions but struggling or stopping in others, excellent mvt condition overall, plates with brilliant lustrous surface tone, scattered MFS, balance cock foot with a small scratch toward its outer edge, regulator needle with surface rust to outer portion, some mild oxide spots on steelwork in other areas; dial with faint hl across seconds-register, FS to glaze in left side of seconds-register, tiny edge nick at lever set position; excellent hands; case shows light wear, MFS, small nick on band, ET detail reduces at periphery of back, thin strips of wear to brass along raised ridges of bezel and back; bow is tight, crown shows light wear; plastic crystal with FS.

The watch is accompanied by letter of provenance stating that this very watch was "the featured attraction at the Museum section of the Hamilton Factory Store for decades." The watch as well comes with disassembly and dial photographs of the grade. From the collection of Edward C Fechter, former Mechanical Superintendent of Hamilton.

Gross weight of assembled watch 80.8 dwt (125.6 g). The earliest Ferguson dials are actually bored and beveled WE-DSD, while the production variety such as this one are WE impressed DSD, made under contract in Switzerland, with all Ferguson patents stamped on back over the rear counter-enamel. The reproduction varieties are all painted metal dials with shiny plain metal backs. The majority of original dials we have handled are the production variety of the impressed type. Waltham president Ezra C Fitch received a patent for a different version of the staggered dial, leaving one to wonder if this was his design as well.
