DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, "Johan Sverdrup, Elgin, Ill." private label signed mvt, Grade 926, 17J, gold-filled OF original case with floral detail to rear, "Rovelstad Bros, Elgin, Ill" signed fancy white enamel SS dial with green color at center and behind hour numerals, gold foil decoration around hour numerals, between hour numerals, as minute markers and around center in two shades of gold color, fancy gilt Louis XV style hands, SW-LS, nickel damascene, s#256705. The Rovelstad Brothers of Elgin, Illinois were prominent retail jewelers and contracted a number of private label watches from Hamilton and Elgin, many of which were marked as the present example with the Johan Sverdrup name on movement as a form of grade designation but with the Rovelstad name on dial. The origin of the Johan Sverdrup name was from a prominent politician in Norway that served as Prime Minister of that country from 1884 to 1889. The present example appears all original and is notable for the superb condition of its attractive fancy dial. CONDITION: Mvt: GRO...
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some fine and micro-fine scratches; near flawless dial with few minuscule flakes of seconds-register hole, mild edge rub under bezel between 2 and 5, small pinpoint surface pit within second letter of signature which appears to be as-made; near mint hands; case shows light wear, no dents or dings, attractive engraving detail with mild reduction; bow pivots semi-freely, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
