DESCRIPTION: EPW - Patek Philippe, Genève, five-minute repeater with split-seconds chronograph and 60-minute register, retailed by Jaques & Marcus of New York, 53mm, heavy 18K rose gold original HC with beautiful dark blue enamel monogram inlays of initials to front and 1888 date to rear, gold cuvette bearing Patek and retailer markings as well as engraving "John from Georgie Feb. 3' 88.," white enamel DS dial with retailer marking, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, likely 30(+)J, mvt with Patek and retailer marking, fausses-côtes pattern nickel damascene, s#80283 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 100.6 dwt (156.5 g). A very impressive and unusual watch with split-seconds chronograph in combination with a five-minute repeating function rather than the more typically seen minute repeating function, and the presence of a 60-minute register rather than the more typically seen 30-minute register. The enameled date marking of this example's case is particularly attractive with its three large and visually balanced "8" numerals, and we believe this will hold special interest among some of our Chinese clientele due to the affinity of the Chinese culture for the numeral 8 with its connotations of good fortune, prosperity and success. Watch is accompanied by a hangtag from its recent service in Patek Philippe's facility, a folder with some information from Patek Philippe regarding use of the chronograph feature, as well as a photocopy of its extract from Patek Philippe archives, which reveals a sales date some months later than the case inscription which is presumably indicative of the case engraving commemorating a special date to the recipient rather than the date of the watch's presentation. This watch also comes with a two-year warranty from 11/11/2019 that transfers with the watch by serial number.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running although upon its return from servicing by Patek Philippe the consignor was advised by Patek Philippe to make sure watch is fully wound before engaging chronograph functions and also that due to the age of the piece that it should not be carried and run daily, good repeater function and tone, good chronograph and split-seconds function, good register function, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some micro-fine scratches and mild fine scratches to main plate and balance cock, few small spots to plate surface, some micro-fine scratching at perimeter portion of small central sweep bridge, superb chronograph components and steelwork; flawless dial; mint hands; case shows very little wear, subtle shallow dent at right side of front lid, few slight slivers of visibility to planchet seams of front and rear lids, blue enamel is fully present and has some typical surface scratches; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $20000 - $28000

DESCRIPTION: EPW - Unsigned Swiss, very unusual double wheel duplex with beating seconds, 54mm, nickel OF case, front and rear latch at top below fixed bow, white enamel SS impressed dial, wound via crank assembly inside rear and set via wheel under dial at 12, double wheel duplex escapement, unusual bi-metallic compensation balance wheel with timing screws arranged to the inner surface of rim, gilt mvt, s#8 marked in two places to visible surface of mvt. A very unusual piece with interesting escapement and beating seconds-register, the movement of this watch is viewed by removal of its dial. We are unaware of the significance of the hour markings inside the case rear and of the minute markings to the portion of mvt surface visible when case rear is opened, it is possible these served some function that is no longer present, and if so some components associated with this function are presumably now absent.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some fine scratches; dial with hl from 12 to center, light perimeter hls between 11 and 12, hl to left side of seconds-register, minuscule flake at center above seconds-register; nearly mint hands; case shows light wear, some abrasions and profuse fine to micro-fine scratches to rear, two dings to band at 7, few small nicks elsewhere, some areas of finish loss; fixed bow with few small scratches; good glass crystal.
