DESCRIPTION:
14K yellow gold oval faceted link watch chain with 10K gold replacement clasp and highly unusual anchor fob tied to Captain William H. Dunphy of Maine as well as a hair locket with his initials and a watch key T-bar, chain measures 15 inches in length from T-bar to clasp end, perfect for the maritime collector looking for a nice heavy gold chain to go with that special pocket watch. Gross weight of chain and fobs 48.7 dwt (75.5 g). Included is a framed image of the ill-fated Ship Willie Rosenfeld Captained by Mr. Dunphy. Our last photo is for information only and is not included with this lot: A newspaper article from "The San Francisco Call" detailing the ship's demise. Credit goes to the California Digital Newspaper Collection, Center for Bibliographic Studies and Research, University of California, Riverside, (http://cdnc.ucr.edu), for supplying a copy of the article. One stormy evening in August of 1896, roughly 400 miles off Santa Catharina, Brazil, the ship hit a hurricane and went down with her cargo and 14 sailors. Captain Dunphy as well as 14 others survived. If only objects could speak, this would certainly have one hell of a harrowing story.
