DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, "Torpedo Boat Watch" with 56-hour winding indicator, 21J, 36S, massive 69mm sterling silver OF original C.W.C.Co. case, silvered DS dial, SW-pin-set, fully capped lever escapement, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#1260415. Gross weight of assembled watch 179.9 dwt (279.6 g). Hamilton's total production of this 36 size movement was 970 made with all examples being produced in a single production run spanning serial numbers 1260001 to 1260970. From known examples it appears that the first 500 movements of this run were typically paired with massive sterling silver Crescent Watch Case Co. cases as seen with the present example, while the final 470 movements of the run were typically arranged in boxed chronometer style being in gimbaled chrome tubs inside mahogany boxes.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some typical scattered mild micro-fine scratches; excellent dial with few mild small contact marks in visible portion, some perimeter scrape under bezel; excellent hands, spot of finish loss to tip of minute; case shows very little wear, an attractive light patina, no dents or dings, case rear and cuvette opening somewhat wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 105 degrees and 110 degrees, respectively), case rear closing with narrow gap to band around its lower portion, case bezel closing with narrow gap to band between 7 and 8; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal though with a notable excess of glue around its seat.

DESCRIPTION: EPW - Vacheron & Constantin, Genève, Corps of Engineers U.S.A. military chronograph with extremely low contract serial #3, 52mm, coin silver OF original Vacheron & Constantin case with "Corps of Engineers, U.S.A., No. 3" marked to rear, signed silver cuvette, white enamel SS dial, pierced hands, lever escapement with capped escape wheel, white metal hairspring, 20J, gilt mvt, s#372017. A superb piece for the military watch collector, the single digit contract serial #3 of this example is by far the lowest we have seen among Vacheron Corps of Engineer chronographs we have encountered. Beyond this we observe several other notable features of this example that are different from the usual: Its movement serial number of 372017 is substantially lower than the typical range of others which are above 380000 (and those with this ebauche style are typically over 382000), its case features a more elegant engraving font to its rear and cuvette, some of its movement markings are located differently than normally seen among examples with this ebauche type, and it has a white metal hairspring rather than the typical blued hairspring.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good chronograph function, scattered fine scratches, few areas of steelwork with oxide, missing a case screw; dial with hl near 9, small edge chip near 6, luminous material fully lost from hour numerals; fine hands, hour and minute with full loss of luminous material, subsidiary seconds-hand is missing its tail; case shows little wear, moderate patina with some uneven areas of darker spotting, scratch to bezel near 9, few small nicks, no dents or dings, excellent engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
