DESCRIPTION: EPW - T.F. Cooper, London, duplex fusee, 61mm, massive 18K gold cabriolet (reversible) casing with "J.S. St. Louis" marking and eagle hallmark, outer with image of two figures holding swords to its rear, inner and outer with ornate floral detail, inner with gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, capped duplex escapement, 12J, diamond endstone, gilt mvt, s#6735 with matching serial number within cases. Comes as pictured with a massive 18K gold (tested) chain measuring approximately 16 inches from hook to clasp. Gross weight of assembled watch 133.7 dwt (207.9 g), which includes the outer case alone having a gross weight of 59.6 dwt (92.7 g). Gross weight of 18K gold chain 46.6 dwt (72.6 g). A very attractive and notably massive set, ideal for the English watch collector who likes a lot of gold!
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, plates with some typical fine to micro-fine scratches, also with ultra-fine scratch striations likely from a past wiping; dial flawless apart from a small bit of glue seepage evident at seating of its seconds-register indicating seconds-register has likely been re-secured; fine hands, minute with past soldered repair at its base; cases with good cabriolet function; outer case shows light wear, no dents or dings, engraving detail somewhat reduced but remains quite attractive; inner case shows light wear, ding to bezel near 8, no dents, engraving detail somewhat reduced but remains quite attractive; tight bow notably thinned at top, push shows light wear; good glass crystal. DESCRIPTION: EPW - Gruen, Fiftieth Anniversary Watch, "Twenty-One 21 Jewels & Two 2 Diamonds" marked mvt with gold plates, Swiss made for American market, 12S, 18K white gold pentagonal original Gruen case with black enameling to bezel, rear perimeter and bow, refinished silvered dial with applied gold numerals, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, diamond endstones over balance and escape wheel, ornately engraved rose gold mvt plates, s#541. Comes with its original presentation box as pictured. Gross weight of assembled watch 44.6 dwt (69.4 g). An excellent example of this top quality Gruen flagship product. The Gruen Fiftieth Anniversary Watch was produced in 1924 and a total of 650 examples were made, this total production figure corresponding to a group of 600 in recognition of each of the months of the 50 years along with a separately numbered series of 50 in recognition of each of the years. These watches were marketed as "The Priceless Possession of a Few" and catered to a very exclusive clientele, being prohibitively expensive with a base cost of $500 in 1924; and for those looking to push past the $500 base cost there were higher priced options available depending on case material, finish, and design.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, few micro-fine scratches, larger winding wheel with a small spot of oxide; refinished dial with scattered dark spotting around perimeter areas; excellent hands; case shows very little wear, no dents or dings, bezel enameling is fully intact, rear perimeter enameling is virtually fully intact with only minuscule bits of loss at lower corners; tight bow with losses of black enameling, crown shows very little wear; good glass crystal; box in excellent overall condition showing little wear, some scratches and rubs to upper lid, some spots of leather loss to right side, interior is excellent, good latching function, locking key is not present.

Gross weight of assembled watch 37.1 dwt (57.7 g). A beautiful Patek Philippe dress watch with an interesting political provenance, the case inscription translates as "The Deputies of Peru to its President Mr. Dr. Don Carlos Sayan Alvarez 1939-1941." Carlos Sayan Alvarez served as President of the Chamber of Deputies of Peru from December 8th, 1939 to July 28th, 1941, and this timeline matches the inscription of the present watch. Following this initial term, Alvarez was to again serve as President of the Chamber of Deputies from July 28th, 1944 to July 28th, 1945.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches; excellent dial with some very small surface spotting at perimeter; excellent hands; case shows hardly any wear, micro-fine contact scratches to rear, some mild dings and nicks to band, original circular finish remains fully present to rear; tight bow, crown shows very little wear; good glass crystal.

David Lestourgeon, a Huguenot watchmaker of Rouen, France, relocated to London in 1681 and became a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company between 1698 and 1731. We suspect the royal imagery of this piece's balance cock is for the 1702 coronation of Queen Anne.
CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking but stopping occasionally, hour and minute hands sometimes moving freely as we suspect the hour wheel is lifting at times out of position, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, short scratches around pillar positions, some fine scratches elsewhere; dial with short scratch to minute chapter at 4, some fine scratches elsewhere, some unevenness to seating of center portion and some green debris evident around its seating; fine hands though currently somewhat out of index and as noted are currently occasionally lifting out of engagement and moving freely; good domed glass crystal with some small bits of glue excess to its seat.

CONDITION: Mvt: NR, balance gummy, will tick occasionally with prodding but stopping soon after, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, filing marks to head of screw on larger winding wheel; nearly flawless dial with few mild surface spots; case shows little wear, no dents or dings, rear enameling fully intact apart from a scratch with associated surface flaking to the lower-left of the right flag; bow pivots freely, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
