DESCRIPTION: LPW - Agassiz, Swiss, 36mm, extraordinary and heavy 18K multicolor gold original drum style J.E.R. HC with exceptionally high relief front detail of a rose gold owl with ruby cabochon eyes that is perched atop a rose gold high relief branch that lifts clear of the surrounding case surface, this central feature surrounded by multicolor floral detail at perimeter, rear with multicolor floral detail at center and perimeter, white enamel SS dial, SW-shift-locking-LS, lever escapement, 16J, nickel damascene, s#19544. Gross weight of assembled watch 36.0 dwt (56.0 g). One of the most extraordinary cases we have had the pleasure to handle, with its unique high relief front feature being as spectacularly beautiful as it is unusual.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound, will tick weakly with excess pressure held to crown, overhaul needed, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, few small micro-fine scratches; virtually flawless dial with few negligible micro-fine scratches; nearly mint hands, small speck of oxide to tip of minute; case shows no wear, no dents or dings, pristine crisp engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows virtually no wear; good glass crystal.

Ellery, 7J, 10S, heavy 18K gold original HC polychrome enameling of a bird to front, floral detail to rear, scalloped band, mock crown functions only as a push for release of front lid, gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#970125. Gross weight of assembled watch 48.9 dwt (76.1 g). An attractive and heavy case with vibrant enameling color to its bird image.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, fine scratch crossing main plate through area between third and fourth wheel arbors, some scattered fine to micro-fine scratches and surface spotting elsewhere; dial with few fine scratches, some edge flakes with the largest at 12; fine mismatched hands, minute is plum colored, hour and seconds-hand are blue; case shows little wear, few scratches to cuvette, ding to right perimeter of rear, scattered dings to cuvette, good engraving detail, front enameling substantially intact with only some small bits of loss, the most notable of which is a portion of one of the bird's wing feathers, rear with some greater enamel losses with its most notable being one of the flowers above center; tight bow thinned at top, mock crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.

CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound and will tick briefly with a twist and occasionally will continue on for a while, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, toning of plate surfaces, scattered small surface spots; visible portion of dial with scattered hls; excellent hands of mismatched color, hour and minute are plum colored, seconds-hand is blue; case shows very little wear, two dings to upper-center of front, dent to left perimeter of front, excellent engraving detail, ivory and black rear enameled scene is fully present with scattered surface scratches, black tracery enamel is substantially intact with only some small areas of loss, case front and rear open somewhat short of 90 degrees (to approximately 85 degrees and 80 degrees, respectively), cuvette photo bezel is missing its crystal; tight bow thinned at top, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.

CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered micro-fine scratches; dial flawless in visible portion apart from some very small bits of glue evident at seating of seconds-register indicating its likely been re-secured; fine-plus hands, spot of oxide to fleur-de-lis of minute, small bit of oxide to fleur-de-lis of hour; case shows hardly any wear, shallow crease type dent to rear between center and lower-right perimeter, cuvette with some dings at center, superb engraving detail, black enameling is substantially intact with only some small loss in areas, case rear opens short of 90 degrees (to approximately 85 degrees); tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal. Chain is excellent showing little wear, slide with some surface flaking of enamel, terminal element with some small areas of enamel loss.

DESCRIPTION: LPW - Waltham, P.S. Bartlett, 13J, 10S, 14K gold (tested) original R&A (Robbins & Appleton) HC with superb front engraving detail of an eagle with outstretched wings perched atop a shield and below a banner of stars, rear with name engraved to shield, engraved pendant and bow, gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, gold balance wheel, gilt mvt, s#159128. Comes as pictured with a 3.5-inch gold-filled chain and an attractive gold-filled key with faceted purple stone at its top. Gross weight of assembled watch 41.6 dwt (64.7 g). This watch is from a production run listed in Waltham factory records as having been made between March and June of 1865, a time period which overlaps with the closing events of the American Civil War. With its magnificent eagle imagery this piece embodies a strong patriotism during a time of great American suffering and sorrow.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, darkened gilt tone, scattered spotting of gilt surfaces; visible portion of dial with two fractures within seconds-register with one having a bit of white paste evident presumably to stabilize it; fine hands, hour is an original polished spade style, replacement minute has had it spade sanded to approximate a similar appearance; case shows little wear, few small nicks to exterior, cuvette with a ding and few nicks, engine turning detail with some reduction at shoulders, excellent engraving detail, case front and rear open a bit short of 90 degrees (to approximately 85 degrees each); tight bow, push shows light wear; glass crystal with some glue excess at its seat. Chain is excellent showing light wear. Key shows ample wear though remains attractive.

Gross weight of assembled watch 47.2 dwt (73.5 g). An elegant case with very unusual engraving detail.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent overall gilt tone with mild haze in few areas, some small nicks and micro-fine scratches around case screw area; visible portion of dial with cluster of hls between 4 and 5, short hl at 6:30; excellent hands; case with short fine fracture at lower-right perimeter of front lid, case shows hardly any wear, extremely subtle crease-type dent toward right center of front which has negligible visibility to outer surface of lid but is evident to internal surface of lid, excellent engraving detail; tight bow, push shows very little wear; good glass crystal.

Gross weight of assembled watch 43.3 dwt (67.3 g). An exceptional case with its very unusual band design giving it a very unusual and striking in-hand appearance.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance swings freely but without escapement engagement suggesting a possible broken or missing roller jewel though we have not disassembled to confirm, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some toning of plates, fine scratch below s#; dial flawless in visible portion; fair hands, hour with substantial oxide; case shows hardly any wear, two dings toward upper-left of rear which have subtle outward appearance but are more evident to inner surface of lid, corresponding dings to cuvette, superb engraving detail, case front opens sluggishly and needs a nudge of assistance through the final portion of its opening range, case rear opens short of 90 degrees (to approximately 75 degrees); tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.

CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered micro-fine scratches, foot of balance cock with numerous peck marks, steelwork with oxide; dial with numerous scattered hls and fractures; fair hands, minute with oxide, finish loss and small bends; case shows hardly any wear, small dent adjacent rear hinge, scattered dings to cuvette with one likely being as-made for space of diamond culet, superb engraving detail, case front and rear opening a bit wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 100 and 105 degrees, respectively); tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal. Chain with a small puncture to its sliding element as seen in photo, otherwise excellent showing little wear.
