Stock#: JH56826

DESCRIPTION: PW mvt only - Waltham, Crystal Plate serial #6, 17J, 4S, HC model mvt with conversion style dial with pendant at 12 allowing proper orientation within OF case, white enamel dial without seconds-register, lever escapement, originally with free-sprung balance but presently with a replacement balance wheel included with lot, jeweled barrel arbor, gold train, back plate and balance cock constructed from polished transparent rock crystal, gilt damascene dial plate, s#6. The Waltham Crystal Plate watches are among the most beautiful and iconic pieces in American horology, and these movements have a strikingly unique appearance with red ruby jewels friction set into transparent plates giving the illusion of their floating in mid-air. In total it is believed that approximately 75 examples of the 4 size crystal plate movement were produced. The present example is notable for its particularly low serial number and its earlier style plate design that was likely only used among the first 20 or fewer examples of 4 size Crystal Plate production. This movement is currently in need of skilled restoration due to damage to its balance cock and loss of its original balance assembly, yet remains a very worthwhile project.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, incomplete lacking its original balance and upper balance jewels, balance wheel presently with lot is from a different mvt and has an incorrect style hairspring stud, one horn of pallet is broken off, crystal balance cock with two visible fractures to terminal portion around balance jewel recess, small flaking around balance jewel recess, small chip of loss to portion of cock which secured original hairspring stud, main crystal plate excellent with few small fine scratches, gilt dial plate with excellent color and luster; dial with light perimeter hl between 7 and 9, few scattered tiny edge nicks; hands are missing.
ESTIMATE: $1000 - $2000
