WW - Universal Genève "Evil Nina" chronograph, ref 885103/01, manual wind, 36mm x 45mm to lug tips, 20mm lug width, original stainless steel screw back case with black tachymeter bezel, round pump pushers and twisted lugs, original stainless steel bracelet by J.B. Champion with embossed Universal logo on clasp which is seen from the back but has been polished off the front, original black reverse panda dial with applied silver indices, three inset subregisters for minute recording, hour recording and subsidiary seconds, 17J cal 85, s#2412287, triple signed. Please note the caseback for this watch is incorrect and indicates /02 for a Nina Rindt not /01 for an "Evil Nina," it was common for case backs to be switched back in the day by either watchmakers or dealers themselves by accident. The watch gets its name from Nina Rindt, Finnish fashion icon and wife to the late Formula 1 world champion Jochen Rindt who fatally crashed at the Italian Grand Prix 10 races into the 1970 Formula 1 world championship. Since Rindt had won 5 of the 10 races that season he was still comfortably in the lead following the fatal crash. He went on to become the only posthumous Formula 1 world champion. His wife Nina was known to time his laps at races occasionally using an Omega pocket chronograph and the famed Universal Genève Nina Rindt in a panda dial layout with white dial, this garnered the black dial reverse panda the "Evil Nina" moniker for its darker appearance and red sweep hand.
